Coding for the future : Visual Studio Future Versions

I'm now downloading the Visual Studio Tools for Office "V3" CTP, the features look interesting:
The highlights of this CTP include:
  • Support for the new Office Open XML file formats in Microsoft Office 2007
  • Support for the new UI ("ribbon") extensibility model in Microsoft Office 2007
  • Add-In projects for Microsoft Access 2007, Microsoft Excel 2007, Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2007, Microsoft InfoPath 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Project 2007, Microsoft Publisher 2007, Microsoft Visio 2007, and Microsoft Word 2007
  • Support for the new application-level customizable taskpane
So, check out the latest info of Orcas, WinFX, LINQ and VSTA at here.

  • I like taskpane. User will feel amazing if they can look up customer database and get the customer data into Office documents from taskpane.

  • Hi AndyK,

Yes, task pane is a good place for user action/interaction and it's very easy for developer to create custom task pane now. However, I found this area is too small and we have to think about what we can place here carefully.

Well, pop up a new dialog window inside Office doc/xls is still a good choice, like various Office-dependent products do nowadays.

  • Yes, task pane is too small if using 4:3 display, but if you are using wide screen, it will better and just like sidebar in Vista! :D
