Personal Folder (PST) Repair Tool in Outlook

Scanpst.exe is a vital and common tool in scanning and repairing PST files. For any supporting staff who need to fix / repair Inbox or PST file for clients, scanpst.exe is a must have and useful tool in their utility belt. I used it extensively in my daily work in about 8-9 years ago, and it save my Inbox again this evening. The path is changed in Outlook 2010, whereas you can find the details on this KB, the summary is as follow:

  • The Scanpst.exe file is typically located in one of the following folders:
    <disk drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
    <disk drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
  • The Scanpst.exe file for Outlook 2007 is is typically located in the following folder:
    <disk drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
  • The Scanpst.exe file for Outlook 2010 is is typically located in the following folder:
    <disk drive>\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

    Thanks for sharing this information. But I want to add one more aspect of Scanpst.exe utility that this only repairs files which have the size of upto 2 GB. So for repairing the files are larger than 2 GB one can use a third party tool.

    It is very serious situation when your PST file size is greater 2 GB. File getting corrupt when it's oversize But luckily we have solution as third party tool Stellar Phoenix PST File Splitter Software repair the 2 GB PST file and store information into new PST file.

  • I used Scanpst.exe utility so many times but it didn't proved me so beneficial so then I used another 3rd party PST repair tool which is very fast and reliable.

  • I am having the same problem recovering my data, did anyone find a fix for that too?
