Back from TechEd

I'm back from TechEd in Inbox hell.  This year content was a little lighter then usual and not much was announced, however, good stuff cam out of the conference.

Here's my best of TechEd 2005:

People and networking

Scott Hanselman recording a series of 10 minutes presentations named Groktalks by Regional Directors
www.groktalk.net

VSTO 2005: can create Outlook Add-ins in managed code.

Packaging Design and Architecture Guidance for Visual Studio
GAT = Guidance Automation Toolkit
GAX = Guidance Automation eXtensions
A lightweight Visual Studio extensibility mechanism

System.Transactions
Objects can be transactional (way cool)

I did a presentation on Monday at the Montreal Visual Studio User Group about TechEd along with Mario Cardinal, Éric Côté and Étienne Tremblay.  We had a blast.  We also handed out swag that we collected in Orlando.  What's fun is that we had the same number of items then people attending thatevening so everyone went home with a little something from TechEd.

  • Guy,

    Thanks for mentioning the Outlook Add-in support. I'm the PM for this feature, and I was very pleased with how enthusiastically it was embraced at the show.

    Let me know any other thoughts and ideas you have- you know, a wish list for Outlook programmability tools.

    John.

  • I've done a few presentations on VSTO 2005 for MSDN Canada. Supporting Outlook is the killer feature for VSTO. Just think about what application business users live in from 9 to 5: Outlook. Now I need to find time to play with it.
