Patrick Tisseghem passed away

On Wednesday evening my dear friend, our colleague and my mentor Patrick Tisseghem passed away. Words fall short to describe what Patrick meant for me, both in my professional and personal life. He was that kind of guy you could rely on, no matter what happened, always friendly and always helpful.

Patrick, it was a great privilege to know you and work with you. I can only join his close friend and colleague Karine, and say: you will last forever.

My thoughts go out to his wife, their two daughters and his family.

We will miss you pal.

We'll miss him! He went away too soon.
I'd like to express condolences to you Jan, his family, friends and entire U2U team.

  • I was deeply shocked by the news about Patrick. I knew Patrick professionaly due to my previous role at Microsoft as the Marketing Manager for SharePoint in EMEA. I can tell you that I never met a more professional and knowledgable person than Patrick. He was the Nbr 1 person worldwide in this area of expertise. This is obviously a big loss for his family, but also for many, many others.

  • Major loss to the community and for the peole close to him. Can't directly think of one person opening my eyes more to how to develop community better than Profke. I'll definately miss my messenger buddy who's always online anytime... :(
My condoleances go out to his wife & daughters.

  • I haven't words to express my sense.
A big embrace for his family, friends and colleagues.

    Best regards,

    Jorge Serrano

  • My sincere condolences to Patrick's friends and family.

His screen casts were some of the first ones I watched. It's dedicated and helpful people like Patrick that caused me to initially get interested in SharePoint and have really motivated me to contribute more to the community at large.

  • I never met Patrick personally, but I learned so much from his writings on SharePoint 2003 and MOSS 2007.

I don't know what else to say, too sad for words.

    Katrien

I had the privilege to meet Patrick at the TECHED 2007 in Barcelona, and he was definitely one of the absolute best SharePoint Guru’s in the world.

My deepest sympathy goes to his family. I don’t know what to say...

    Président du CLUB MOSS

  • Patrick was the husband of my cousin Linda. I knew him as my former babysitter, helping me with my first computer, as a humoristic guy and a great father for Anahi and Laura. I was shocked when I heared the news. Because he was so dedicated to his work, I didn't meet him so very often, but still,...It's a great loss for his family and work... Linda, Anahi and Laura, I think of you in these sad days... Leslie.

Patrick certainly added to the awe of things, Thanks.

  • My deepest condolences to Patrick’s family and his colleagues at U2U.

  • Words fall short, what a devastating loss.
On behalf of all of my colleagues @ ADA ICT my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

We will miss you Patrick, thanks for everything.

  • Although I never had the pleasure to meet Patrick in person, which I will probably regret for the rest of my life, I feel deeply shocked and saddened by his sudden and unfair death.

Through his blog, articles, webcasts, course materials and books he helped me to become probably one of the youngest SharePoint experts in the Netherlands, and through this way helped me to unlock opportunities for myself I previously could never imagine.

Through his writing I have also got to know him as a very skillfull SharePoint expert, with a great sense of humour and a huge passion for Microsoft technology and it's community.

My thoughts go out to his family, his friends, and his colleagues at U2U.

Jan, times might look tough right now but hopefully you and your colleagues will find the strength and passion to continue Patrick's legacy.

And to you Patrick, you may now have logged out of SharePoint forever, but I'll never forget what you did for me and the rest of the community. I'll take a Palm for you tonight in your honor.

    - Cyriel

  • I was simply shocked.

Strength to all close to Patrick...

  • This is very sad news.
I studied together with Patrick at EHSAL in Brussels in the early 90ties. As students we worked out some projects together. Patrick was a guy who had a lot of respect of other students that time already.

    To his family:
bij deze mijn medeleven aan jullie. Ik zal Patrick altijd herinneren als een opgewekte kerel die het respect van iedereen verdiende. Sterkte!

  • I can't believe it... I'm shocked beyond words :-(

Just bought his and Lars Fastrup's book on SharePoint Search and I'm reading it with delight. Patrick will be greatly missed by SharePointers all over the world.

My thoughts go out to his family and close friends.

  • Condolences to his family and friends, he will be greatly missed by all of us. I was one of the fortunate ones to have met him while he was training some of my colleages. Patrick thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

  • As a lot of people already stated, this is a very emotional shock for all of us. Makes one aware to enjoy every single day.

I have met Patrick on several occasions, always in a good mood, always talking about his beers :)
Patrick, thank you for sharing all your knowledge, enthousiasm and drive with us. I think you're one of the greatest examples for the SharePoint community world wide. I learned a lot from you and had good fun during bootcamp, devdays, teched, etc. I'll miss you.

@Jan and you guys at U2U: I wish you strength and all the best, my heart is with you.
And my deepest condolences to Pat's family.

  • I'd like to offer my condolences to Patrick’s family, his friends and his colleagues at U2U. As a former Sharepoint-user I'm thankful that he was such a prolific contributor to this fine technology. He will be missed.

  • My condolences to you and his family.

  • innige deelneming voor heel de familie

  • I played football with Patrick Tisseghem in SK Halle and he was even one year our coach.

I remember us having beers in the Lamme Guiche while talking football and IT stuff.

The last time I saw him, is a couple of months ago: having dinner with his wife and two children in the restaurant ELDO.

A great guy left us. Life is not fair.

My condolences to his family in these hard times.

    Kurt, Marina & Lorena

  • From now on my thoughts will be with Patrick when developing anything for Sharepoint, as a reminder of the short time we have and to honor Patrick, the greatest!

  • About 4 years ago, Patrick was my first SharePoint teacher and coach when he was at my company as a trainer. We stayed in touch from then and I learned much from him.

    Patrick you will be missed!

My condolences to his family and friends.

  • A number of years ago, Patrick taught me Visual Studio 6. I followed his work since then.

My condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.

  • Sad news indeed, but this is life full of surprises & sudden deaths. I remember seeing you both together for the first time in TechEd Europe 2006 & you were fun and loving like brothers. Then in 2007 Patrick gave me 5-day-MOSS-training course & I knew him closely enough to say that SharePoint community will miss his contributions.

  • My condolences to family, friends, colleagues, ...
He will be greatly missed. My first SharePoint teacher who passed along the enthousiasm for the product. He will be greatly missed.

    To the family
Patrick was een zalige kerel, altijd opgewekt en vol enthousiasme. Geen sterallures, gewoon iemand die fantastisch was in wat hij deed en het deelde met de wereld. Hierbij mijn medeleven aan jullie.

  • Man, I can't believe it! My deepest condolences to his family and the U2U crew. Patrick will be missed...

    Greetz,

    Leon

  • I am so sorry for your loss.

His family will be in my prayers today.

U2U has been an integral part of any success I have had with SharePoint technologies.

I have read so much of Patrick's work, I felt like I kind of knew him.

    Goodbye Patrick.

  • Just barely a year older than me... I never knew his age, but I certainly knew his name when surfing for SharePoint knowledge.

OT: there is a spam trackback a couple of comments above.

    All the best.

    Rob

  • We wensen jullie veel moed en sterkte in deze donkere dagen. Innige deelneming van Rudy, Nathalie en Paulien

  • My condolences to you, your colleagues and his family.

  • I will always remember my training at U2U in 2006. I knew I was getting the best training available on MOSS 2007 from THE authority on the subject. On Wednesday night that week, Patrick took the class on a little bar tour of Brussels. Just so happened that the World Cup was going on during that time as well. I remember Patrick handing me beers all night (in spite of my protests) as we tried to watch a match on the big screen. He had this wry little smile on his face and seemed to be enjoying watching me have a good time. We have all lost a great friend. My condolences to all.

  • I was shocked like hell when I heard this awful sad news. Patrick was the one I loved SharePoint for and he was a unique person in all that words cannot express. Tears are not enough and words cannot be any good but one last word to say:
"No goodbye for you will be always in our hearts"

  • Unbelievable and shocking news. Just a few months ago I had a fantastic Sharepoint training from him. He was indeed a one of a kind guru on Sharepoint and Moss.

My condolences to his family, friends and all at U2U

  • My condolences to Patrick and his family

    ~Scott

  • My condolences to Patrick's family and his colleages at U2U.
It was always a pleasure speaking with and listening to Patrick, not only about Sharepoint, but also about every day things.
A very sad and big loss, indeed :-(

  • I came to know this yesterday night, I was completely shocked. Especially because I knew so late...
I had the honour of meeting him a couple of times for a course and at the DevDays Barcelona in 2006. I'll never forget what he meant to me, even though our contacts where brief.

My condoleances go out to his family, friends and colleagues.
A great man is lost, but his memory will never be....

    Sandro

  • My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues ..

I got the news today, and I was totally shocked :(

I attended several Sharepoint courses (in Norway) and a conference (Berlin 2007) with Patrick. He was a wonderful teacher, guru, and instructor with great sense of humor and a lot of drive. I also enjoyed some good discussions over good food and beers as well...

He will be truly missed ...

    Magnus

  • The SharePoint community has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Patrick. With all due respect to the other resources on MOSS and WSS, no one, and I mean NO ONE, knew more than Patrick did. He lived and breathed SharePoint.

I met him twice, the first time at DevConnections 2006 in Orlando, and again when he came on-site and did MOSS training for our development team. He always had a quick wit, and most importantly, he enjoyed what he did. He will be missed by all who have learned from him. Sending my condolences...

    Tim

  • My first encounter with SharePoint ever was in a training by Patrick. It was all about beer, one of my favourite subjects. He passed away way to young and i will miss reading his blog and books.
My condolences to his loved ones and to you, his colleagues, friends and students.

  • My condolences to Patrick's family and friends.

I will remember 'profke' for his great ability to make complex subjects seem simple, his enhousiasm and of course the odd chat outside the U2U building.

    He will be truly missed.

  • My deepest condolences to Patrick's Family, Friends and colleagues. Patrick will be greatly missed.

I just came this site to look for references, I am saddened to hear this news.

May Patrick's soul rest in peace and may the Almighty God accept Patrick in his Heavens as a honourable and Good Man who made a significant contribution to the World, with his work.

  • I heard this last monday, a month later. I was shocked.
Patrick and his colleagues at U2U helped me the first years of programming for SharePoint.
My condolences goes to Patrick's family and his colleages at U2U.
    Sterkte!

  • I attended a couple of sessions by Patrick at the European SharePoint conference in Berlin in 2007, and he was great to speak to about MOSS. After meeting him, I bought his "Inside MOSS book" and it has been a great help.

    He will be greatly missed.

  • I heard this today from my Microsoft friend. I just can not believe.
I have read so much of Patrick's books and we had email exchanges couple of times only but, I felt like I kind of knew him. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences goes to Patrick's family.

  • This is really sad news...........

I owe so much to Patrick for all his help and the contribution towards the SharePoint community he made, his books are awesome and he was a true mentor...

He had answers to all my questions and used to be ready for any help...very very inspiring.

    Patrick will always be missed...

My condolences goes to Patrick's family.
