Contribute 2.0

Macromedia is about to release version 2.0 of their CMS tool. Interestingly, it has a feature called "Flash Paper" that allows you to transform any document into a Flash document to embed in your web pages.... hmm... where have I seen this before.

Macromedia added a lot of printing capabilities to Flash a while back (we are talking years ago) to allow it to be used in place of PDF documents, but this is the first solid application of the concept that I have seen so far... Wonder how well it works? I would much rather require a 200 KB plugin that everyone has to view my docs, than a 15 MB download any day!

Next up.... "Flash Forms"...

  • If they are SWFs, this isn't really the case, it is just that the association isn't made in the OS when the plugin installs (since the player exe isn't included with the plugin). So, in theory you could still email the SWF, it just wouldn't play if they didn't have a player exe and the association. Additionally, HTML email is supported by any email client that is used by a significant portion of the population, so sending web pages isn't a problem.
