JD on Flash 8 Specs

Here is JD's feedback on the Flash 8 file format specs:

"The Flash Player 8 was finalized and publicly released at the end of August, and the 8.5 Player was announced a month later. I'm not sure yet of estimated publication date for either the new 8.0 tags, or whether this will be rolled into the key 8.5 release... I get the sense it's in publishing now, but I haven't researched this in January.

Let me check in to this today, see if I can get some better info here....

...I haven't connected with the owner of this process yet (still lots of Adobe integration going on), but when I peek behind a firewall I see that the SWF8 format does appear to have its documentation finalized and should be pushed live soon... preliminary info I've got is that it's the licensing agreement which still needs to be finalized. (We're trying to avoid damage from potential player forking, and recent events have made this trickier.)

Nothing definitive yet, but that's the early info I have.

Sidenote: I'd urge caution on any outside-the-blackbox documentation... stuff that "seems to work" in one version may not be the enduring stuff the group stands behind in its actual documentation."

Thanks for the head's up JD. I'm sure I'm not the only one that is eagerly awaiting the official docs.
