WPF(/E) vs. Flash Debate Rages On

The lines have been drawn, and a lot of interesting talk is going on.

Dax Dandhi has a great post about WPF(/E) and Flash.

There is no doubt about it, WPF/E is going to make a huge impact on the web. Microsoft has the resources, the people, and the developer army to make it happen.

    Ship it. ;-)

  • I think he could be clearer when he talks about when he refers to "Flash".

For example, he says that Flash has medium 3D support, and then points to Shockwave director (which has nothing to do with Flash).

It seems he is talking about Flash Authoring. I would suggest a better comparison would be between Flash Player 8.5 and WPF/E, as opposed to a designer focused tool (Flash Authoring).

He also says that "timelines are NOT optional", which is incorrect.

Come on Jesse, you know these technologies (on both sides), why point to a comparison that is so unclear and wrong?

  • I do agree that his comparison table isn't the greatest, but he also does bring up a lot of good points. In any case, blame JD, he pointed to it first ;).

Hey! You're gonna get me in trouble here....! ;-)

(Seriously, for the subject at hand, I did focus most of my MIX06 time on the WPF/E hints, but then when the Vista slip and MS re-org were announced on the final day I realized that predictions a year out may or may not come true. It's hard for me to compare a current worldly reality with presentations of a possible future reality, so I'm pretty much out of these discussions until they do actually ship something... who knows, they may still end up getting the reach through SWF.)
