Top Blogs For Term (.NET Weblogs Archive)

I'm working on extending the archives to do some useful stuff with all that data, now that we have a good amount of data to mine. You can preview the first of these features here:

http://www.activehead.com/dotnetweblogs/TopBlogsForTerm.aspx

This page will allow you to find the top blogs for a given term and show you how focused that blog is on the topic you choose (for example, Scoble tops the list with something like 285 posts about longhorn, but they only account for 8% of his overall content, while Chris Sells comes in with 66 references, or 16% of his content). Archived feeds will show up as having the URL www.activehead.com right now, since that is where they were imported from (need to run some updates on the DB to update the blog locations for old posts). However, it will also list the author, so a quick google search should do the trick for now.

  • It blows up when giving an empty string:

Search on full-text catalog 'FT_RssItem' for database ID 22, table ID 389576426 with search condition '""' failed with unknown result (80041605).

I'm not going to continue testing it, for fear that I'll destroy your data. I strongly suggest that you secure it, before somebody comes along and starts causing problems.

    Even sprocs can be compromised.

  • The data is secure. I just don't have custom errors on, because it is still very much alpha. It is using parameterized queries. You shouldn't be able to compromise anything. (If you can, send an email to jesse@activehead.com with the steps to reproduce and I will take a look at it).

  • Very cool little tool... It also blows-up with the search string "WinFX"

    Divide by zero error encountered.

  • Like I said, still very much alpha :-). Thanks for the bug report, I'll check it out.
