Tablet PC OS / SDK

So, in case I find some time to do some Tablet dev, I installed the Tablet PC SDK. Very cool stuff. Automatically, it ink enables your PC (even if it isn't a Tablet), so you can actually develop some Tablet apps on your PC. Of course, if you need to take advantage of the standard MS text recognition engines, you have to install the Tablet PC OS on your PC. Interestingly, you can install the Tablet OS on any PC, not just a Tablet. A handful of features will be disabled, of course, if your device does not support them, but Ink and recognition are not any of those features.

Word of warning though, if you do this, you might want to install the TabletPC OS off of the MSDN CDs, don't burn a custom CD from the MSDN ISOs. I tried doing this and ended up with nothing but installation problems (wasted about 4 hours this morning) until I broke out my MSDN cases (it kept asking me for a Windows XP SP1 CD, but the keyboard input was mysteriously disabled, so I couldn't enter the proper path).

  • Good recommendation...glad it works with the MSDN CD's...I've seen people on the newsgroups mention having a lot of troubles from ISOs they got from MSDN...must be a bug! :-\

Also, you can actually hook up a wacom tablet or whatever you can write with and it will work on your PC with the Tablet OS
