Rory > Joel

Seriously, not only does Rory provide 10x more insight than Joel Spolsky's "I'm 10x Smarter than Anyone at Microsoft but My Software Still Sucks" blog, but he is a million times more entertaining. Take, for instance, his recent article about the Ballmer criticisms:

"...To begin with the Ballmer bashing, think about the man and his background. He’s a sales guy. That’s what he did for the company before running it, and, from what I understand, he did a magnificent job. During my nearly two years at Microsoft, I’ve met some “old-timers” who have endless stories about Ballmer’s methods (entirely fair and legal – no joke there) that would blow you away. The guy could sell condoms to the Pope..." [1]

  • If I'm not mistaken, Rory is and never was a true programmer, Joel was. Despite what you think of Joel, if he makes a remark about programming, I don't think I judge what Rory has to say about the same topic.

This topic wasn't about programming, so it doesn't count, but you make a comparison as well ;). The thing is though that if I compare the length of the article Joel posted (a couple of lines) with the endless drivel posted by Rory, I immediately see who's really able to word what he thinks and who's not. Hint, it's not the guy with the dreaded story about his ex-GF on the same page.

  • Yeah, Rory is a bit long winded, but in a hillarious way :). He may not be a "true programmer," but at least he isn't going to try to convience me that exceptions are bad and .NET is useless.
