To the people of New York City...

A little over a week ago I took my family on a vacation to the northeast region of the United States.  This was my first time to New York.  Keep in mind I have heard horror stories about how rude New Yorkers could be, so I was very cautious.

In all of my humble travels, I have never experienced such friendly people!  New York is by far the nicest city I have ever traveled to.  I never felt unsafe, and my daughters had a blast.  So to the people of New York City... Where did you get your bad rep?  In my opinion, other cities can learn manners from you :-)

  • Yeah, we just like people to think we're rude so that they don't move in here. It's already crowded enough. ;)

  • Good question. I live in Chicago, another big city that people assume is filled with mean people. Honestly, the only mean people here are the tourists. They seem to have the attitude that they're in a big city, need to behave like the natives, and act incredibly rude. It's enough to keep me away from the heavily trafficked tourists areas (especially during the weekend). Oh well, you take the bad with the good. :)

  • I live near the city, and have traveled to the city regularly for years. For certain, it has become an amazingly more livable and nice place to visit (and I expect even a better place to live, though perhaps a bit pricey).
