Apple Software Update & Vista

The Apple Software Update attempted to run on my notebook computer today, but I got the following message:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2738.

Turns out I needed to do the following to get my problem resolved:

  1. On the Start menu, click All Programs.
  2. Click Accessories.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator from the shortcut menu.
  4. When the User Account Control dialog appears, click Continue.
  5. At the command prompt type the following:
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll
  6. Press Enter on your keyboard.
  7. A message should appear stating "DllRegisterServer in vbscript.dll succeeded."
  8. Click OK and try installing iTunes or QuickTime again.

Sure enough, it worked!

  • I installed Vista on a laptop the other day and had terrible wireless performance, then after a little while I noticed my laptop was rebooting. When it came back I was informed by Vista that it had crashed and what's more it knew why it crashed, it was the wireless drivers. Even more surprising Vista told me it knew there was a problem with those drivers and intel had acknowledged it and I could find a fix at . Sure enough, I installed the fix and my wireless connection is 100% now. I was very impressed.

  • On my Vista PC I'm invited to download the same update a couple of times a month. I don't have an iPod nor, to the best of my knowedge, do I use iTunes or QuickTime.
    Do I need this?

  • apple should develop softwares which should also be compatable with windows xp and windows vista

  • I'm hoping this works!! * Crossing Fingers *
