Phoenix Silverlight User Group - February 2008

silverlightUGwithText Tonight's meeting was filled with great content!  Although we had a modest number show for the meeting, among the attendees were Tim Heuer, Dave Campbell, Scott Cate, Scott McElroy, Simon Allardice, and Steele Price.

As seen in this blog post, we unveiled our new logo!

We started the meeting with an overview of Silverlight implementations accomplished by user group members.  Here are the findings:

  • Scott Cate displayed a reusable animation engine.
  • Tim Heuer showcased a groovy implementation of a Twitter front-end done in Silverlight (a competing front-end to the one I create in my latest Silverlight video).
  • Dave Campbell discussed a strange behavior observed when performing a fast drag-n-drop.  This opened up a good discussion regarding how to troubleshoot Silverlight apps.  Most of us were using AJAX, so a quick call to Sys.Debug.trace was mostly used.
  • I demonstrated a simple video game I created and a "magnifying glass" effect.  I appreciated the great feedback on that!

When pizza arrived, we chatted about other issues such as the "I'm waiting for version 2.0" mentality as well as hesitation to implement Silverlight due to current adoption rates.  Tim Heuer was invaluable for these discussions.

As was the case at our last meeting, we had 100% interaction with all attendees.  Granted, we had a small group.  But for those who did attend, some great information was received and given.  I really look forward to the next meeting.  On that note, our next meeting will be held at [itt] on Wednesday April 2nd at 6pm.

What about March?  A lot of us will be at MIX08, so there will not be a March meeting.  Nonetheless, the Phoenix developer community is proud to invite Mr. Scott Guthrie to speak on (among other topics) Silverlight!  Don't miss out on this event scheduled Tuesday March 11th at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts.
