Windows hosting in Ireland - a joke ?

I don't know for your respective countries, but here in Ireland the hosting situation is getting worst than ever :-(
Almost every single company offer now a so called Windows solution which is based on Windows 2003(Yeah cool), PHP, Perl and MySQL (Ugly and not cool !)
If you talk about support, this is a joke. After many valls, you discover that indeed they have 99 Linux guys and 1 dedicated Windows support person.

A shame ! Why can't we have in my country a decent and complete Windows 2003 -ASP.Net - SQL Server 2000 platform ?

To tell you a story about an hosting company (no name here, they're quite all the same). This peculiar one don't have a decent access to SQL Server using Enterprise Manager. Their answer is no, SQL Server si behind a Firewall, use our online web tool to manage your database.

OK fine but the tool sucks. No import/export. So next step, ok we give you an access for a dedicated access. OK fine, but it took me less than 2 minutes to discover that all permissions on my tables went wrong. Forget it ! Again I will have to look overseas to solve something I would expect to fix at home.

  • My sentiments exactly - though my experience is in the UK. All windows plans, even those on Server 2003 with SQL server 2000 are over priced and under supported. Getting someone intelligent to reply to a request for support seems impossible.

I moved my hosting from Hostway in the UK to Infuseweb in the US and have never regretted it. Great prices and excellent personalised support. The move of the site to across the Atlantic has not resulted in any significant increase in response times and page load times.
