Strange stats Ireland still on dialup phase

I setup some time ago Google Analytics for one of the site I manage Developers.ie

The results are quite surprising. It seems that more than 18% of my users are looking at the site using Firefox (compare to 10% six months ago).

Most interesting thing is the connection speed. I have more than 35% of users connecting with... a dialup line!! 48% by broadband and only 3% on corporate line.

So broadband is not there yet in Ireland. When you think developers are still using basic phone lines, think about the average joe in this country. It means no more than 5% of the Internet population in Ireland use broadband, long way to go.

  • I think you need to add more factors into that mix before coming to that conclusion.

    For instance:

What's the absolute number of visitor sessions. It needs to be representative. It could simply be that a few developers with dial-up frequently visit the site. How many of these session are truly unique...?

    Just an observation.
