Antivirus for Vista 64 bits

Amazing that Vista don't come with a basic antivirus software. Well at least with third-parties you have a solution for the 32 bit version, but for the 64 bit one, it's quite a rare thing.

Through Start64, I found and installed Avast! antivirus and it's free for home use. Pity I will miss AVG!

  • Can you clarify:

    a) Do you think it is Amazing that Microsoft did not include Anti-Virus?

Or b) did you mean it is Amazing that the European Commission would react the way they would had Microsoft included Anti-virus?

I prefer b) and having an operating copy of Vista RTM running now, rather than being held up in the courts.

  • David agree with you but my point is that 64 bits is so cool and it's a pity you have to chase after some antivirus code.
However, I am not sure really if Europe will have been against any solution. After all Defender and a Firewall are delivered with Vista, and you can choose some third parties alternatives if you want to.

  • Does Symantec Corporate work? I know they have a 64bit version that works on 2003 Enterprise, no idea if it works on Vista?

  • I don't know if Symantec Corporate works, I was looking more for a free solution. The one I found works well anyway.

  • All this time later and still its a hunt. You would have thought they would have something in place by now. I tried CA Assc. They offer a free version, but after installing it fails to load.
    The hunt continues....
