Apple launch Safari 3 for Mac but more imprtant for Windows XP and Vista too!

What's going with Apple recently? It seems they are on fire, and now they show it today by invading one the 'piece de resistance', the browser territory shared by Internet Explorer and Firefox, no not only on the Macintosh but on Windows XP/Vista too!

This remind me that I need to ask for a serious pay rise tomorrow. As a web developer hell is now wide opened.

The nightmare now to keep my projects cross browser compliant is worse than ever.

I don't say I ever ignored Safari but because it was a small niche for my proects (less than 0.2% according to the stats) I simply checked that I didn't have rough corners on the web pages.

Now that Safari happens to be on Windows, I can say bye bye to my next trip to Hawaii. Well the only good news there it will take some time for Safari to take the lion portion of the browser market.

I believe Firefox 3 is on the development tracks, and Internet Explorer 8 should follow soon after.

Apple, no thanks for making my life more miserable (just joking;-))

Update:

OK my fears are justified. Just installed Safari on Vista, and already I am going to moan. Apple when you create a browser for Vista/XP at least respect the UI of the host.

Every input controls look awful. Check the ugly radio buttons for instance. Then I hate this big border around a text box to show it has been selected. It's not part of my design it's not my choice I don't want it.

I know it's a Beta, and it surely need more work. Another annoying thing, the rendering is not great. Even on my very fast machine, I can see for a second the design rendered on my screen before the border of each table disappear. Really not great.

So please Apple, if you want to push your software on Windows, at least respect the look and feel of Vista!

  • Safari sucking? What would be surprising is a version of Safari that didn't totally suck.

  • Vista looks ugly to me.
Safari is nice, still sticking to firefox for now...
But hopefully the full release has its bugs fixed.

  • Hey, in my views Safari looks great!

It really suits me. And about the rendering thing, it works very well. It has got the fastest HTML, JavaScript and Application launch performances.

Please re-check! And about the design of textbox. It adds on to the beauty. There's really great! I'm using both the browsers Firefox and Safari. Currently Safari holds 1.5% of the browser's stat but it is expected to get a major portion of the pie by the end of the third quarter of this year.

    Give Safari a chance!
