Can Microsoft fix this as top priority in Vista Service Pack 1?

UPDATE 2:  No more problems at the moment since I installed the latest control panel from NVidia, cross fingers!

UPDATE: Apparently the problem is real and NVidia has released a specific page for those like me having the issue.

Check this page 'Microsoft Windows Vista Hotfixes'

I love Vista. No I am not sarcastic but I really like it. On a new machine it's a great system.

However Vista is far from being perfect, hopefully the SP1 will resolve some annoying problems.

When you search for common Vista errors, the most mysterious one is the DWM crash which happens at a regular timing.

See this screenshot. Where is the fix, I don't know? Nobody seems to agree on the reason why and how to solve this crash! In my opinion, this has something to do with the graphic card driver, in my case NVidia, but I read that some users have the same problem with other manufacturers. I wonder if it's not something to do also with a two screen setup.

Another one I share with many users is the random freeze I experienced from time to time. When I say freeze, I mean restarting the PC from the power button.

  • Neither of your symptoms... I also have NVidia.

  • I've been running Vista Ultimate since it was first released on an upgraded rig and I have never as of yet seen the problem you describe nor have I encountered any crash problems that require a hard-boot in order to recover from.

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo (E6600) on 2 Gigs of RAM with an nVidia 8800 GTS and am using a dual monitor setup.

Perhaps a new video card would resolve your issue?
