VS 2008 Beta 2 won't install for some x64 users :-(

Back from holidays, I was hoping to finish my installation of Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 after all the troubles I got in July.

I follow the matter with Microsoft, but I am now part of a tribe who can't use VS 2008 on Vista x64.

At the minute my understanding of the issue is the fact that I can't install the hotfix KB11806. This one is necessary for the VS2008 installer to start the .Net framework 3.5 correct installation.

Sadly the install is rejected all the time whatever I do.

According to Microsoft the version of the .Net Framework 2.0 I have is incorrect (It should be 2.0.50727.1378, and I have 2.0.50727.312, which is the RTM version).

I have no idea how this is possible because the Vista image I used is the one I downloaded from MSDN in July 2007!

If you're using Vista x64, can you tell me what version of the framework you have? You can check the version by looking at the propertie of this file:

C:\Windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\mscorwks.dll

  • My version nr. is also 2.0.50727.312

  • Also having problems trying to get VS2008 to install on Vista 64 bit.
Checking .Net Framework 2.0 I find that I have the same version as you (.312).

My problems manifest themselves by not being able to install the x64 prereq bits at the start, so nothing gets installed.

I have been to Aaron Stebner's blog site looking for possible answers, but so far nothing suggested has worked.

  • I found the solution!
Uninstall any version you currently have of MSDN, and then try installing VS 2008 Beta 2 again, this worked for me.

    Hope this helps you guys!
