browseCaps

Mitch was asking about an updated Browsecaps file.  Supposively, CyScape is keeping this updates.  All you have to do is give them your life story so they can probably spam the hell out of you in exchange for a browseCaps.ini file from freakin' Feb 2000.  Great....

An the help out there is pretty much retarded.  Answers are either: update your machine.config or visit CyScape for the updated file (which wouldn't even work).  I've seen rumors and even links to a seemingly non-existance webservice which I presume would keep your browseCaps section up to date.

It seems a little, well, bizarre for each and every developer out there having to manual update their machine.config file each time a new browser comes out.  Even more bizarre is that everyone gets pointed towards a company selling a product that doesn't even work with .NET, and three year old browsecap file that won't even work with .NET.

Microsoft, I'd like everyone to use IE too, but please don't mess up my application for that goal.

  • anyone have a nice automated way to turn that into the browserCaps section of the .config file?

  • Thanks for your nice comments about my project. I do have plans to eventually create a .NET compatible version of browscap.ini but that's still quite a few months away. Perhaps with my browscap.csv file you could create a script that makes a somewhat inefficient BrowserCaps insert for .NET?
