Whew! It's finally over!

Windows Automatic Update has been bugging me for a couple of months now to install the XP SP2 upgrade. I've been putting it off but tonight I decided I'd finally just get it over with and install it. It took almost 45 minutes to perform the update! I remember doing this on my desktop a week or so ago and it only took around 10 or 15 minutes. I guess thats the different between a 2-month old 2.5 GHZ desktop and a 2-year old 1.8 GHZ laptop... :)

  • Same here. I installed SP2 on my Inspiron 8500 this past Tuesday. It took a while and when I first rebooted, the machine would not start up. It hung at the splash screen. I removed the power and battery, replaced them, and restarted. It worked at that point. The only other problem I have had is that the laptop no longer comes out of standby properly. The display does not come back on and I have to power the machine down and reboot it before I can get it back.

  • Shortly after posting my entry I went to open up a web project in VS.NET. It told me that the WWW service was not running. Huh? Since when? I checked the service control and it's status was "starting" -- this is about 20 minutes after booting up.

I ended up rebooting and it started up. I hope I don't have any more post-SP2 hiccups...
