Where is YOUR finger pointing?

Following Sam Gentile's rant last week about career responsibility, and G. Andrew's curious and (sorry) misunderstood comment about filtering, I'm going to make a bold statement that will probably piss a lot of people off:

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF.

Was it Cox's responsibility to make sure YOUR computer was patched? Cox's responsibility is to provide a gateway to an open environment. I don't pay then to filter out ports for me.... I pay a toll to cross a bridge. If it was their responsibility, then why don't we just close off every single port, since someone could launch an attack from it?

NO, the responsibility is YOURS to make sure that your computer is up to date. The responsibility is YOURS to make sure you stay up-to-date on your chosen career. If you CHOOSE not to stay secure, not to stay up-to-date on trends and technologies, then take that finger that you're pointing at someone else, and bend it around so that it is pointing squarely in your own direction.

Now, in am effort to be a good neighbor, here is a link to the official MS resource on MSBlaster. You can also run a free online virus scanner. As soon as I find out from Cox which port it runs over, I will post it here so you can all make sure it is blocked at a local level. I know it's still not under control yet, because my modem activity light is still having an aneurism.
