Secrets Revealed!

I am proud to announce today that I have a not-so-new partner-in-crime. For weeks I've been talking about our secret employee, and only a choice few individuals actually know his identity. He's been working behind the scenes, wrapping up some server controls that I started over a year ago. One such control was ScrollingGrid, which would never have made it off my hard drive without his expertise and hard work. If you notice, a scrollable DataGrid was one of his most requested controls (by a longshot). To my credit, he said I was able to get farther than he did, and to his credit, he was able to take my poorly designed prototype and turn it into a very streamlined control, cutting the codebase in half. He's now in the process of wrapping up another year-old control, which demonstrates the same advanced functionality that is coming in ASP.NET "Whidbey" on the current version of the Framework.

Chances are that you've used one of his controls before. His website lists nearly 30 different server controls that do everything from an emulation of the WinForms UpDown control to finding new ways to subclass the <asp:HyperLink> control. I'm pretty sure the only one that knows more about server controls is Nikhil Kothari.

Well, here we are: the moment three or four people have been waiting for. Interscape's secret employee is.....

ANDY SMITH! (www.metabuilders.com)

A few months ago, he blogged that he was unhappy with his current situation, and that he just wanted to get paid to do what he loves. Well, I'm more than happy to oblige him. I approached him with an offer, and thankfully, he accepted. Interscape is glad to have him as part of the team. His official job title is Chief Code Monkey (his business cards really do say that), and he has free reign to develop pretty much whatever he wants. He may be a monkey, but he works for peanuts. (rimshot) Seriously, folks...he's our most valuable asset, and we're to have him aboard. We really hope that he likes it here, cause we won't let him leave. Ever.

In all seriousness, he's been a huge asset to Interscape, as he has been to you. Together, we hope to continue to build community through killer server controls. I mean, come on.... Where else could you get paid to fart around with controls and blog all day? I can't wait to see what he comes up with. He has already surpassed my expectations. Thanks for being part of our team Andy! I'm looking forward to changing the .NET world with you.
