I totally agree. Learning something is never a waste of
time.
Assume X becomes obsolete in favour of Y.
Often only someone who has knowledge about X really
grasps WHY Y is better in the first place. Also, often
learning about X first makes the transition to Y much
easier.
The transition from TDD to BDD is a very good example
for both.
