  • Creating Captcha Images Using The GD Library

I have found a random PHP script for creating captcha images using the GD Library and I've converted it to C# as promised in my previous blog post. I learned something new on this project. The first color in a new image will be the background color but only if the image is not using TrueColor.

  • List Installed Fonts

Here is some simple code for creating a list of all your installed fonts in order to create a visual reference. It may be of more interest to a web designer. I suggest you print the web page so you can easily find an appropriate font. Some applications have font drop down menus that display font names using that font but I would rather have a handy print out.

  • Hidden Gems In The MSDN Library

How many Microsoft developers use the MSDN Library? Probably not many because I've just read a blog post where someone recommended not even installing it. I have to admit that I never even opened the Microsoft Document Explorer until I learned how to add my own notes as a custom help collection. Now I use the Microsoft Document Explorer every day. I'm a bit concerned that I am duplicating content that is already baked in so I've spent some time browsing the MSDN Library. You can save interesting help topics as favorites and here are a few of my favorites:

  • YouTube Google Data API

I am very active in the vlogging community at YouTube and Stickam. Vlogging is clearly the future of online communication and social networking sites. I have been particularly impressed by how effective vlogging is for forming genuine friendships and online community. I've always been an anti-social IT geek and I never appreciated the value of social networking sites until I found YouTube where you can see and hear the people you are communicating with. Many of the YouTube vloggers are addicted to video conferencing on the Stickam web site. I have witnessed many instances of vloggers collaborating with each other on video projects. It would be interesting if there were a social networking site for developers that used video to forge an effective online community for collaboration. I do have an account on ITtoolbox which is a professional networking site for IT geeks but it lacks any video sharing capabilities and therefore does not create a real sense of community.
