".... bioinformatics is a field of research that has
undergone a rapid explosion in terms of the numbers of tools
and techniques that it has produced. While much of this
progress can be attributed to the adaptability and
flexibility of open source technologies such as Linux and
Perl, it is important for bioinformatics professionals to
consider that disseminating their bioinformatics tools to
users can be as critical to scientific progress as
developing new tools. A key way to facilitate the widespread
dissemination of bioinformatics applications to biologists
will likely be the development of an open sourced .NET class
library to serve as framework for Windows-based
bioinformatics applications...."
Better to stick with biotechnology and specialize plants
genetic engineering. biotech have good prospectus right
now and a lot of research to be done.
whereas bioinformatics is a good subject to help
forensic investigations and security purpose. A
technologist (bioinformatist) is required to develop
devices such as finger print scanner, body ultrasonic
scanner and detecter etc. along with computational
algorithms.
Most people in Bioinformatics come from IT background,
like me but I am finding it really hard to learn about
biology since I had no biology background so I think
people having bio background can be very successful if
they learn IT and programming logics.
Secondly java, perl and python are favorite choice for
bioinformatics but I too exploring to use .Net, I don't
know yet if this is a right decision or not but I am
reluctant about learning new languages.
