Aggregate SharePoint Event/Items with Exchange appointments into your Calendar view using Calendar Overlay

In continuation of my previous post about using Calendar Overlay with new SharePoint 2010 when you have other Calendar view in any other lists in SharePoint. Now the other option for Overlay we have is with Exchange.

You can overlay current users (logged in user) personal Calendar (from Exchange) onto a existing SharePoint calendar, in any list, by using new Overlay feature. Here is an example:

Yes, you have to point to your OWA and Exchange WS url. It can also go and find your web service url, when you click find. In my case, it converted machine name into FQDN. That was smart…

I had initial configuration issue, that my test users (Administrator!) didn’t have corresponding Exchange e-mail in SharePoint profile. So you have to ensure that your profiles are in sync with AD/Exchange for e-mail. It picks up current user’s e-mail from profile to pull data from Exchange calendar.

Same calendar in Outlook 2010…

I think, new Calendar Overlay feature fills a great void. Users can now view SharePoint information within context of their personal calendar. Which is simply great!

Enjoy new SharePoint 2010.

  • Did you manage to add a resource?

  • Hello, when opening the sharepoint page with the calendar with overlays from Exchange, I get an error:
"Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority ".

It seems to be a certificate issue. What shall I do?..

  • Hi,

  • Is it possible to another user's exchange appointments in SharePoint calendar? In other words, the user should be able to specify any other user's email/name and can SharePoint calendar display his/her appointments?

  • Is it possible to add multiple exchange calendars as overlays?

  • Useful feature, but I'd hoped to see how you could aggregate more than just the current users calendar with a sharepoint calendar, this would be very useful in a team site calendar where 1 calendar could show all members togeather

  • Great info here. I see that this overlays your personal calendar (whoever is logged in) and a SharePoint calendar. But is there any way you can build a merged view of a static personal outlook calendar (regardless of who logs in) and another SharePoint calendar? Or is there another way to get that?

I need to merge a SharePoint calendar with a specific view along with my personal calendar, so anyone who gets to the site will see my 'complete' calendar between these two calendars.

Any insight will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • I need to PUSH a calendar date from a sharepoint calendar event onto about 50 peoples personal outlook calendar (like currently when you send an outlook event to other out look users - it automatically shows up in thier personal computer) - and not vice versa as descibed above. Any leads?
