Win64 for x64 Build 1218

MS has made Build 1218 of Win64 for x64 systems available for MSDN Universal Subscribers.  Looks like I'll start the download remotely to the office tonight.

If the rumbles are correct, this build will support both Whidbey running as a 64 bit application and Yukon running as a 64 bit application.  I wonder if this build will support the 64 bit build of Oracle 10g currently available as a developer release?

Note that The VS.NET IDE runs as a 32-bit application within the WOW environment and that the .NET framework is what should run as a full 64-bit application.

  • Yes, I confirm that Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 as well as the Express SKUs can be installed and run on Windows XP for 64 Bit Extended Systems. Tried it by myself ;-)

  • hey Wally... just downloaded this myself. i have an HP DL145 AMD64 to play with, and this is great news.

when you say "Whidbey running as a 64 bit application", doesn't that contradict "The VS.NET IDE runs as a 32-bit application"? curious what you'd heard... will there be a 64-bit version of VS.NET?

  • VS.NET runs as 32 bits. .NET 2.0 framework runs as 64 bits.
