MVPs are paid? Where is my money - Issue Resolved

It is interesting what people think.  According to the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.aspnet newsgroup, MVPs are paid by Microsoft to promote their technology.  I'm an MVP.  This is my third year as an MVP.  I haven't seen the first check from Microsoft.  Perhaps they were lost in the mail. 

Anyone that knows me knows that I don't just sing the party line because someone tells me to.  Given the cost of going to events (flights, hotels, missed work time), the MVP award that I have gotten has cost me much more than some free access to MSDN.

Update: As you can probably imaging, discussion on this has continued.  As often happens, a joke Alvin was making was taken out of context.   Alvin has appologized for the original statement.  Personally, I am not sure that there is much to apologize for.  Jokes get taken out of context all the time.

  • I think *you* should apologize for jumping to conclusions. At the very least you should have asked the guy directly what he meant before going overboard and posting stuff in a blog like "2% disgrace the program".

    The guy's an excellent MVP and made the comment as a joke. Did you really think he was announcing that MVPs are paid by MS??????

  • Wally, please make it clear to your readers that the guy in question was *making a joke* and that others jumped on the issue without checking with him about what he posted.

    MVPs are not paid. In fact, those who get hired by Microsoft must give up their MVP status.
