Galway meeting... the video
You can now check by yourself the excellent lecture done by Kieran Lynam last Friday on ASP.Net 2.0 (apologies for the medium quality, I am still working on it, but hey it’s watchable and the sound is ok. NOTE: if you know a free tool to change the video brightness and contrast, let me know)

Galway feedback and my new toy
This post is dedicated to my good friend Tiernan, which I am sure will be dead jealous when he will read this post :-)

Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar Beta
Woow, this come as a main tool for IE. I get the same kind for Firefox, but in Internet Explore even better.
This is a screen grab of one of my current project. You can see the ruler, it’s really well done just darg and rop to take any measure. The red lines are to indicate the cells in tables, and the I also askk to show the size of each image. You can really show a huge amount of information. My gosh whay we can’t have this nifty tool two or three years ago! -
Put a book in your pocket
I know we are living in a hi tech world but many times it’s really convenient to have some printouts we can carry everywhere.

Do you know Baidu?
If no read this interesting inside thought on Baidu, the most popular search engine in...China.
Yes Google is not as people think a dominant force everywhere. It seems that the question of Google buying will raise some issues and seems unlikely. Western culture is not an all advantage in the Asia. -
Is IE 7 a Firefox Killer?
This is an interesting thought by Preston Gralla on O'Reilly.
Nobody knows really the answer yet, but if Microsoft can release IE7 quickly, including all the promises made to keep it more compliamt with the standards, and also ioncluding the cool new stuff like the thumbnails views and the tabbing, yes it should at least keep the standard user at home.
The big question is to see if IE 7 as it was showed at the PDC will be fully powered only byVista and not with XP?

Microsoft embrace open source ?
"MPI is key middleware that was designed by a consortia of all the supercomputing vendors in the 1990s to allow the easy portability of code. It abstracts away things like low-latency interconnect, and our focus is making it super easy for ISVs to move their code," Kyril Faenov, Microsoft's director for High Performance Computing, told eWEEK in a recent interview at Microsoft's campus in Redmond, Wash.

Bindows
No it's not a typo it's really Bindows ( I guess an armada of faithful Microsoft lawyers are on their way to their office by now).
Bindows using AJAX is an api to let you running desktop applications in a webpage. But hey at an heavy cost of 695$!
The Bindows™ Framework provides you with:
- A class based, Object Oriented API
- A complete windowing system with a wide array of supported widgets including menus, forms, grids, sliders, gauges and more.
- The leading toolkit for developing zero-footprint SOA client-side applications.
- Native XML, SOAP and XML-RPC support
- Single user to enterprise level support.

MAX just tested hmmm
MAX is usely a good idea of what you can do in some future applications. But the glitch I found with MAX is the way to share my galleries by email.
If my granny who has just understood the principles of email, has to painfully download a bloated WinFX (took me a long time to get it on my machine even with broadband) I say sorry no, bye bye MAX.
In my opinion Picasa is more useful.

New Microsoft Gadgets site
Apparently the speaker in the keynote yesterday got wrong the address of the new website dedicated to the cool gadgets for Vista sidebar.
This is the right one
-
NEW: Google Blogs Search
What search operators are supported?
-
VISTA Demo now live
I am following like many the PDC keynote and the VISTA demo is very cool.
Surely what I see there is not n Beta 1 (Sidear, 3d view, etc...) Now the UI start to make a diference with Windows XP. I wonder wha machine specs they use fo the demo.
So now in the Sidebar you can implement 'gadgets' and not 'widgets' :-)

Bill Gates Keynote today at the PDC - What is the right time?

The questionnaire has been sent to a lot of people and the list of prizes winners will share start to be impressive: -
VISTA multiple versions
Look like Microsoft marketing did it again! They like to confuse everything and everybody. Now after the multiple Visual Studio releases, we have now the multiple Vista versions :-(
Why making things simple when you can make it complicated ? No less than 7 versions. Microsoft guys, can't you just ditch some and give us only 2 or 3?
As a geek, of course my choice will go for Vista Ultimate. And what's going on with the basic version? How somebody can decide for a user that he can launch only 3 applications with the Starter version?
If it's true, what define an application? This is silly, look like April's fool (well with Microsoft you never know) and won't work at all!
-
VS 2005 RC for MSDN subscribers but...
OK happy members of the MSDN cult, you can now download VS 2005 RC but but read carefully!
Apparently no Go Live licence with this release, and more confusingly it's the Team System version.
What's going on? I was sure to read that VS 2005 Team System was not ready yet and need another Beta?

Javascript library
I think I see a lot of cool Javascript scripts since years, but searching for a specific script, I found this amazing Javascript library, a sum of everything you really need for your client side scripts.

Pair programming
Extreme XP? Order this cool funiture (surely a piece of art in few years) :-)

Why Good Programmers Are Lazy and Dumb
Lazy, because only lazy programmers will want to write the kind of tools that might replace them in the end. Lazy, because only a lazy programmer will avoid writing monotonous, repetitive code – thus avoiding redundancy, the enemy of software maintenance and flexible refactoring. Mostly, the tools and processes that come out of this endeavor fired by laziness will speed up the production.

First AJAX Instant Messenger
ajax im ("asynchronous javascript and xml instant messenger") is a browser-based instant messaging client. It uses the XMLHTTPRequest object in JavaScript to send and receive commands to and from the server. No refreshing of the page is ever needed for this "web application" to work, as everything is updated in real-time via JavaScript.
Pretty basic at the moment but good idea anyway to demonstrate the feature. Strange enough works only with Firefox and Safari and not Internet Explorer ?? (They reject the blame on IE for some Javascript incompatibility; I don't understand really why but I am sure it's easy to fix)
