Security, Service Packs, and Simplification
Wednesday, I sat down with Ryan Nariane of InternetNews.com and we had a lengthy discussion about security. He caught wind of PatchDayReview.com from Robert Scoble, and wanted to get the skinny on how it came about. It was my first real big interview, and I had a blast. It's a great shot in the arm for PatchDayReview, as we're working on some new technologies to help increase patch awareness. Towards the bottom, I gave a little hint on some of the stuff we're working on. Go check it out!

Happy Patch Day!
For those of you that don't know, every 2nd Tuesday of the month is Microsoft Patch Day. While this may sound fun at first, it is definitely not a holiday for network admins. There is a simple website that I put together to keep you notified about those patches. Sort of a poor-man's KBAlertz. It's called PatchDayReview.com, and it's where I give you all the patches, without the jargon. I try to keep the categories pretty consistent, and each one has it's own RSS feed. If you hate keeping up with patches, point your aggregator here, and let me do the work for you.

PatchDayReview Massive Update
Over the past few months, I let PatchDayReview.com get way too far behind. It took me nearly 7 hours to update, but the site is now current with all known security updates through this Tuesday. One change of note is that I am no longer allowing comments on bulletins themselves. If you want to comment on a specific patch, there is a link to that bulletin's forum on the PatchDayReview Forums. If you'd like to discuss patches, please do it there. At any rate, sorry to kill your aggregators, but most of you subscribe to Scoble, so you're used to it by now.

I just spent the past day or so on some new updates to PatchDayReview.com, so I thought I'd give everyone a quick rundown.

PatchDayReview.com Update
I just finished a long overdue update to PatchDayReview.com. With PDC, GenX.NET, ScrollingGrid, LonghornBlogs, and ever other stupid little distraction getting in the way, keeping the patches updated kinda fell by the wayside. But, the first round of updates has been completed, and I'll work on Part 2 tomorrow. It's good to see Microsoft rolling several fixes into one patch now. Good call.

Workspace Woes
Well, Vault is looking mighty appealing after my Workspace decided to mysteriously malfunction. So much for working on my next control tonight. Oh well, I need to update PatchDayReview anyways.

PDR: 10 September 2003 Special Edition
This warning supersedes the warning that discussed the MSBlaster vulnerability. What that means is, this alert deals with the same problems that the MSBlaster one did, and more. If you're reading this, stop what you are doing, and either download the scanning tool, or just install the patch immediately. Don't fool around with this one. The more people that patch, the less likely another MSBlaster will show up.

PDR @ Only4Gurus.com
Carlos Aquino was kind enough to begin hosting a copy of my weekly Patch Day Review on Only4Gurus.com. I'm currently working out the details on how I want to move forward with it from here. My weekly PDR is targeted at “ungeeks” who don't have a clue about what “NetBIOS” or “RPC” is. but everyone else can read it too. The will be a little humorous, and sometimes sarcastic, cause serious things don't ALWAYS have to be taken so seriously. If it's boring, ungeeks won't read it. You'll see at a glance how severe it is, and I'll have a recommendation on what do do. Most of the time, the recommendation will be to install the patch. And laugh more often.
