WPF/E Officially Named "SilverLight"

In case you haven't heard, the software plugin formerly known as WPF/E is now officially going to be called SilverLight.  More details can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ including a pretty cool video.

If you haven't seen what SilverLight is or what it can do, you can view a demo I put together a few months ago here that integrates SilverLight (it's going to take some effort not to call it WPF/E) with ASP.NET AJAX to call Amazon.com's Web Services and retrieve album information.

  • One thing. Microsoft is saying that WPFE will be supported cross browser. But in the CTP only XP SP2 and vista are supported. what about the Windows 2000, 98 etc. What about people surfing from those machine.

  • I seriously doubt that they'll be supporting Windows 98 and haven't heard of any plans to support it. That technology is just plain too old in my opinion to even worry about. I'm not sure about 2000 though. I know there's still a lot of that out there in large enterprises (even though it's becoming quite dated as well).
