Active Ports
Active Ports - easy to use tool for Windows NT/2000/XP that enables you to monitor all open TCP and UDP ports on the local computer. Active Ports maps ports to the owning application so you can watch which process has opened which port. It also displays a local and remote IP address for each connection and allows you to terminate the owning process. Active Ports can help you to detect trojans and other malicious programs.

Using Subversion On Windows
I just successfully finished testing Subversion as a SCC provider, but I am going to uninstall it and continue using VSS. Not because there is some problem with subversion but as I am the only person working on the projects therefore Subversion is like a little overkill for me. So, I found the integrated VSS option as my preferred choice. Anyway, if you are working in a team or working over internet, try using Subversion before going to CVS/VSS. I am writing this article only to remind me later of the procedure that I used to install Subversion so that later I can get to it easily.

Save InkPicture image with Ink in common image formats
There are two options when you have to save an image with Ink
a) Either save the image by manually serializing it and then adding it to the Ink object using Ink.ExtendedProperties.Add(...) . By doing this, you can't send the file to anyone not able to read the file.
b) Output a file using common image formats (i.e. jpg,gif, ... ) -

(Smartphone) Compact Framework: Setting value for ComboBox
A while back, I was in a situation where I had to assign different values to different items in a combo box, a routine and simple task on desktop. But, as I found out that there is no Value property for the ComboBox control so its not simple as setting the Value property. Anyway, I managed to get around the problem by using the techniques suggested by some brilliant ppl on DOTNETCF list. For future reference, here are the two different methods.

CoderToDeveloper
I received this book (written by Mike Gunderloy) yesterday from amazon.co.uk and depite my ongoing exams, I managed to read half of it cover by cover in a day and I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed any book after a long time. Many books tell you the why of software development, but this book is about why and “how” to do software development. In my opinion, it is an essential title to be on every software developer [read Project Managers, Software Team Leaders, Software Architects] desk. Even if you dont trust my words, then read Joel's foreword for this book.

Mobile and Embedded at CES 2004
[This isn't strictly about Smartphone, but it is illustrative of how far Windows is spreading from its desktop roots. At the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES), vendors displayed 72 different devices that were built around Windows Mobile, Windows CE, or Windows XP Embedded. Windows for Devices has collected information about all 72 and cataloged them. There are arcade games, PDA's, phones, POS terminals, web pads, a digital jukebox, even a universal translator! This is a fun list to browse. via SmartPhoneThoughts.com ]
