Doug Reilly: Thank You!
When a contributing member of the community passes away, it should make all of us reflect on what is important in our lives - right now! As developers we always have deadlines, technologies to learn, and problems to solve. Yet what do those things really mean if it all ended tomorrow - or next week?

ASPInsiders Summit 2006
Last night Dan Wahlin and I flew into Seattle to join other members of the ASPInsiders for our annual summit. When we arrived in Redmond, we wandered about trying to find a place to eat and landed at Red Robin. Keep in mind, there are many places to choose to eat near the Microsoft campus. Wouldn't you know it, the other ASPInsiders just happened to be there. Looks like a fun week is in store for all of us, and I am sure Dan and I will blog about everything not under NDA.

TechFest 2006 - Phoenix
Today is a repeat of our TechFest event yesterday in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I had the closing session yesterday on WPF, and it was a lot of fun. How can you not have fun with WPF? It's eye-candy for the developer and end-user.

TechFest 2006 - Santa Fe
Today is the launch of TechFest - a new "one-to-many" approach created by Randy Rands with Microsoft. In his opening session, Randy highlighted the purpose of TechFest - to inform the technical community (infrastructure or development) what to think about moving forward with current or new projects. Randy quoted Gretzky (and I am going to paraphrase this) in that the "Great One" was great by going to where the puck was going to be, not where it was. Likewise, we should be observant as to where technology is going to be. That is the spirit of TechFest. Today is the first instance (geek speak) of TechFest, which will be followed by a repeat tomorrow in Phoenix, AZ. I am closing the developer track today showcasing WPF technologies.

PrimeCondition Is Number One In Google And Live
My first test for comparison (between Google and Live) was based on searching for custom audio workouts. The screenshots below reveal the results:
-
The Search Challenge Begins
After my blog about Custom Google Search Engines, I was challenged to give Live.com a chance. Since I use two browsers (IE7 and FireFox), I thought I would make Live the default for IE7, and keep Google the default for FireFox. I will now "double search" and see for myself how Live stacks up. According to the screenshot below, resistance may be futile!

Google Calendar gone...
For whatever reason, the embedded Google calendar in my about page is no longer working on my blog. The <iframe> tags appear to no longer be supported for weblogs.asp.net (at least for me anyway).

From Venice to The Venetian to Venice Beach
When I wrote my From Venice to The Venetian blog, I thought that was an interesting coincidence. However, when I arrived in California last night to attend a management seminar today, the story was still unfolding. I didn't realize my hotel is located at Venice Beach! For all of these pit-stops to have a Venetian theme (unintentionally) is a little remarkable. ...at least I think so.

More Buzz About PrimeCondition.com
While at lunch today, a number of individuals asked about Prime Condition. Although the home page highlights what it will do, there is not yet a way to test the MP3 workouts. However, to be informed when the MP3 workouts are available, simply sign up at the home page of Prime Condition.

Excellent Customer Service
When I arrived at The Venetian last night, the MIX 06 registration team asked for my ID. I presented my driver's license and went on my way. Later in the evening, the attendees were invited to socialize at Tao, which required photo identification. It was at that moment I realized I no longer had my driver's license. So I ran up to the registration booth and was confronted by two security gentleman who told me to go check at guest services. I went to guest services and they did not have my ID. I went back to the registration booth and asked the security guys to check for my ID. After a little checking, another security person emerged and said they had located my ID and it was on the way. Apparently, I was 5 minutes ahead of the staff at each checkpoint. Eventually the Microsoft & Venetian staff members arrived to hand me my license.

From Venice to The Venetian
My trip to Italy is now over. I arrived back in the United States late Sunday evening. However, upon arrival to Phoenix, I had to repack and head for Las Vegas to attend MIX 06. The conference is at The Venetian resort. What a strange irony that I went from the real Venice to a copy of it within days of each other.

"There is no such thing as SharePoint"
This week I get to be a student in the SharePoint for Developers class at Interface taught by Simon Allardice. The courseware was written by Mr. Allardice himself, and is the best format I have ever seen. Instead of the typical "powerpoint" slide format common even of Microsoft courseware, his materials are incredibly visual. Just flipping through the courseware I see screenshot after screenshot with annotations that really make the whole experience seem less intimidating.

.NET Love Story Continues...
It has been DateTime.Now.Subtract(TimeSpan.FromDays(365)) since my last Message. I was hoping you would Response.Write or just give me a CallBack. So much has happened lately, it is difficult to Process. Although you Delegate your work, we seem to be on different Threads, and it feels like I am not as much of a Thread.Priority to you. Your communication always starts with "Me" or "My", when I am trying to suggest this or That. I am not the Anonymous Type. Rather, I am Literal. Are we still compatible?
