“Unplugged” online talk with me this Friday

Update (Nov 19th): An audio download of the talk is now available here.

This Friday (November 19th) I’m going to be doing another online LIDNUG session.  The talk will be from 10:00am to 11:30am Pacific Time.  I do these talks a few times a year and they tend to be pretty fun.  Attendees can submit any questions they want to me, and listen to me answer them live via LiveMeeting. We usually end up having some really good discussions on a wide variety of development related topics. You can learn more and register to attend the event for free here.

Hope to get a chance to chat with some of you there!

Scott

Looking forward to it as it's usually a fantastic opportunity to ask you some direct questions.

See you on Friday!

Scott, the marvellous thing about the interwebs is that it's international. Believe it or not, other countries do not use American time zone names. To me, "Pacific Time" is UTC+10, which is correct for Australia but almost certainly half a day out for the United States. You don't need to do any conversions, just remember to tell the rest of the world what "Pacific Time" means as a UTC offset, and then all us weird foreigners can take it from there.

Hopefully I'll be able to attend, if not here's what I would ask:

When will we see more effort into polishing, or bringing up to date, some of the old .NET libraries / functions? Parts of the framework seem to have been completely abandoned. The ASP.NET calendar renders HTML that cannot be validated. The Repeater control still doesn't use generics for it's collection (so we have to remember to cast to RepeaterItemCollection). Basic types like string, numbers, dates, and other fundamental classes could use methods to allow easy / fluid conversions; something very easy to do that would make a lot of code cleaner / nicer looking.

I'm talking about small improvements that would require very little effort, but yield great rewards. Can we clean the windows first and then work on the chandelier?

Peter.

The talk was useful, thank you.

Some feedback is that I would request that any questions that you ran out of time for if you could still answered by posting on your blog.  While I understand the time constraints I am sure the questions were relevant and other individuals could benefit from the responses.

By the way, congratulations on the new edition to the family.
