Home Page Updates in RSS

I'm not much of a repeat site visitor. News and blogs are in the daily routine but little else. For sure not with any consistency. By the same token I can't expect friends or family to stay up to date with changes on my site. So I've added an RSS feed to erobillard.com.

RSS is perfect for sites that don't change often, but you want to know when they do. Sites of friends and family are a great example. I'd subscribe to every one.

The problem I have with many feeds now is volume. The Scobleizer and The New York Times section feeds are two good examples. If I wanted that much information every day I'd hit the original sites and browse. Or give me an aggregator that lets me filter a feed by category.

In the meantime, every site should have an RSS changelog feed, especially personal sites. An RSS generator should be built into every HTML editor from FrontPage to DreamWeaver. Maintain it by hand if need be, it's just a file, there's really nothing to it.
