The Key to Successful Discussions

The difference between failure and success lies in whether you are seeking an argument or an agreement.

After a good discussion about the relative merits of Listservs, Forums and Newsgroups with John Perry this thought popped into my mind. And it's true whether you're a union negotiator or talking baseball. Why? It implies a willingness to see both sides. It says that you're not defending a premise for the sake of defending a premise or upholding a personal belief for the sake of ego, but genuinely trying to seek truth.

Here's to people who get it.
