Genesis crashes...
The space capsule crashed to earth today! Looks like the chutes didn't deploy as it came down. They were worried about a Nine mile an hour landing with the chutes damaging the insides so they were going to catch the chute with a helicopter. I can only imagine what it crashing down to earth without a chute will do to the devices inside!

City of Heroes Tanker abilities
I created Fireside on the Virtue server the other night, and so far I think I love playing with him. I'll get a screenshot of what he looks like later today. I've had LOTS of compliments on his costume that I created, which I think is great :) I love that people think he looks cool.

Large gathering in City Of Heroes
I was playing CoH last night on the Virtue server and walked into the main hall in Galaxy City to sell off some enhancements I had received but couldn't use. Upon entry I saw probably 30-40 characters, all LVL 15 or higher gathered around the statue inside the hall. I sat around for a while watching and listening to what they were saying.

I haven't had much to say developmental posting wise lately... not sure why that is, I guess I've just been working on getting up to speed on C#, everything I've done in the past has been VB or VB.Net, so the new job is getting me up to speed on the C#.

Copy Protection on CDs
Velvet Revolver's new CD Contraband is out today. It's got copy protection on it from Sunncomm. It really is pretty pathetic how easy it is to circumvent that protection. I merely did this for backup purposes, but could just have easily done it for distributing it on a p2p network.
-
Velvet Revolver's Copy Protection, and getting around it.
I ran out and bought Contraband today from Best Buy. For those of you who don't know who Velvet Revolver is here's a summary. Lead Singer: Scott Weiland from STP. Then Slash, Matt and Duff from Guns-n-Roses. Their show is awesome, I saw them a few weeks ago here in St. Louis with Russ, his brother Matt and friend Kenny.

It's quitting time. Time to move on to bigger and better things!
I turned my resignation letter in to my current employer this morning. I think they were a little shocked, and I haven't quite seen how my big boss is going to react yet as he is somewhere up near Redmond this week. I haven't been happy here lately, and they know this, but they also thought things were improving. I had to play along for the past few weeks, the last thing I wanted was to end up unemployed. So I made things better, I didn't put up a fight with the usual insane things, I just played the game.

Upgrading to DNN 2.0 part II
The upgrade to 2.0 today went great! I've now started to get DnnCart out of the DNN core that it was built into for SoloPerformance.com, and into it's own soon to be Private Assembly. With the latest work I think I may be able to have a release of code in the next week or two for people to start looking over.

Far Cry... I'm gonna need a bigger system.
Lately, since I got the TIVO, I've been recording and watching The Screen Savers on TechTV. Kevin has been raving about Far Cry for a few shows now, so last night I after a long day of work I went out and purchased it.
-
Tivo disk space doubled, last night's upgrade complete!
Well, I finished last night's project. I put the new larger hard drive in the Tivo and it worked like a charm! So I've doubled the size of my Tivo, in about 2-3 hours worth of work, mostly reading instructions ahead of time. The upgrade I did just copied the master Tivo drive to my new drive, and then all I had to do was expand the new drive to it's full capacity. As far as I know all my previous recordings are intact, I even watched one of the movies it had recorded a few days ago after the upgrade.

Hell of a time updating today!
I think today's going to be a great day! One of my XML feeds last night didn't import on any of my servers, so I'm going through trying to track down why, I think I finally figure that one out. I tried running windows updates on my home machine last night, then again this morning, I think it finally worked on the fifth time. Now I can't get it to work on my development machine, it appears that MS' servers are having problems because sometimes the page will load, sometimes it won't, sometimes it will load without the CSS files..... and they said it was a good day...

DNN2 is out! Time to play!
Well, the day has come, DotNetNuke 2.0 has been released. Now developers and site admins scramble to upgrade, maintain, fix, and play with their web sites. I'll be spending the week upgrading the cDotText module to run on DNN2, along with preparing a few of my web sites to be upgraded to the new version. I'll have to wait on some modules to be upgraded, mainly the TTTGallery so that it runs on DNN2, once I have an image gallery I can get solo2.org converted over.

Long slow day...

ASP.NET Forums 2.0 developer discussion...
So we just finished an online conference call for the ASP.NET Forums discussion. It's the first time I've tried to have a conference of that nature on MSNMessenger. I think next meeting Rob's planning on having a little bit better formulated agenda.

Canon Digital Rebel Storage and Use
I picked up a Digital Rebel back on October 4th, since then I've take well over 1500 photos. The real reason I purchased it though is about to start back up! Racing season begins here in St. Louis on March 28th, I hope to start using the camera at some of our events and offering folks the ability to purchase prints which I will then display on Solo2.org for ordering, print them out with my Canon I9100 and mail the prints, or hand deliver to the next race.

MPx200 Unlock'd!
Well, it's complete! I unlocked my MPx200 this morning and am now running it on T-Mobile.
-
MPx200 Unlock
Someone posted about unlocking MPx200's the other day, and a lawsuit in NY against AT&T and other cell providers. I can't seem the find the entry as I probably deleted it already and it's no in the aggregate feed, or the search engine, but I'm in the boat that I need to unlock my phone. I got my phone on Sunday October 26th, and instantly loved it. It's great, AT&T on the other hand has not. This past weekend I got rid of AT&T and switched my phone number to T-Mobile.

cDotText version 0.2 released!
cDotText Version 0.2 (released 3-9-2004)
This package is a simple solution to semi-integrate .Text blogs into DotNetNuke. It currently allows for four things. -
cDotText V0.2 is coming out tonight!
I'll have the new version available for download later tonight on DnnCart.com. The main new feature is that it no longer requires subdomains for it to function properly, you can have your blogs in a virtual directory below the root (one level is all that has been tested).
-
DNN Rss aggregation
I was having issue with trying to get the XML feed from this blog to show up on my personal domain, www.chrishammond.com so I had to do a little searching. I ended up finding a page on handcoded that provided the XSL transformation to properly display the HTML in this feed! Thanks to Handcoded!
-
Archiving an idea... Web site screen shots
Just putting a note in here to remind of me something to work on, and see if anyone else has thought of this or done this already.
-
dotText with www.dotnetnuke site
I wanted to set dotText up on solo2.org this evening, but I did not want to set it up as I had on DnnCart.com and soloperformance.com with seperate subdomains blogs.dnncart.com and blogs.soloperformance.com. I wanted to set it up to be www.solo2.org/blogs/. Well, DotNetNuke has some HTTPHandlers that allow you to link to it's tabs by name, for example http://www.solo2.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=27 and http://www.solo2.org/project z/default.aspx both link to the same page. So that throws a kink into the www.solo2.org/blogs link as it throws a few errors when you try to reference the default.aspx page in the dotTextWeb directory (setup as a virtual directory for www.solo2.org/blogs)

MPx200 Lives again!
After about losing faith last night I was able to resurrect my mpx200. I did another Master Reset, and then waited, and waited, and waited. The phone acted like it was on, displayed info on the outside, but didn't show anything but the MLife splash screen on the inside. I had a friend dial the number, and that somehow woke the phone up out of it's slumber. So far it's running fine. I've rebooted only once though, at least until I get home, as I don't want to loose it again before I get off the airplane tonight so I can call my ride!
-
MPx200 died!
I think my MPx200 has died!!! I need to make some calls, so of course it's gone now. I'm sitting here waiting to see if it will finish doing a master reset, which wipes the flash and supposedly starts it over. It's been running now for a few minutes. I couldn't get the phone to hardly boot, it would boot into a funky mode, couldn't use the power button to shut it down.

It never rains in southern california
I know this isn't true, I lived in Riverside for 4 years, but I mean come on. I come out to California for work for a few days, and what happens? It rains! We had a suprise birthday party for my Aunt today, it rained, then my brother and I went out to Beverly Hills so I could look for a gift for someone, we walked up and down Rodeo drive in the rain.

How things change... vacation, to work really fast
I was hoping for a nice relaxing week this week. Then on Monday in class I got a call and was asked if I would go to California for some hotel conversions. I left Tuesday evening, got in to LAX late, swung by the parents house in Long Beach, then down to Irvine to the hotel I'm staying at. I spent the next 48 hours working, with a few hours of sleep here and there. I worked so much, drove so much, and was so busy that I ate two meals that whole time.

What's the difference between the two? I guess the difference would only be with posting as I don't think BJ has feed capabilities, but I could be wrong. I've been using NG now for a while, as it allows me to post right from outlook, so it looks like I'm working!

DotNetNuke and Windows Authentication
I hadn't worked with DotNetNuke and Windows Authentication at all, but last week a client came to me and wanted a portal setup that works with their Active Directory for logins. I ended up using the TTTCompany Windows Authentication module. It worked perfectly, done and setup in roughly 3-4 hours, but it could have been done in half the time, I also installed the PA version of the TTTCompany Application pack for the client so that they have an image gallery to use.

Xbox for less...
Reading this CNN article it appears the Xbox may take a substantial price drop later this year. I can honestly say I have never played an Xbox, or even really seen one in person. I was one of those guys who camped out for a PS2, took the next day off work, and had a blast. But since the first few months of owning the PS2 I have used it far more for DVDs that playing games.

There's a patch available for all versions of DNN 1.0.6 thru 1.0.10d. I don't know if it's a big whole, it isn't on any of my sites, but if you run an instance of DNN I'd recommend you apply the patch. I went ahead and got all my sites this morning.

You gotta love the snow!
I love the snow! As a kid we lived all over, and never seemed to live anywhere where it snowed, so when it snows now I just love it. My dog runs around like mad in it, people drive like idiots in it, but I still love it! I especially love having a garage now to keep out of the weather. I am glad that I got new tires though, these Falken Ziex 512s are awesome compared to the Bridgestones I had before.

Orkut, did you make it?
There were a few folks interested in my post a few days back about Orkut, I bet some of you made it in. I have yet to see it still (hint hint) but what do you think of it so far? I've never signed up with any social networking sites, or whatever people are calling them, so I really have no idea what to expect.

cDotText status 1/26/2004
I've had quite a few downloads (14) of cDotText so far, and actually two people have given me feedback! It looks like a snowstorm is headed our way this afternoon so it'll be a night in on the computer.

Christoc.com launch
I put up a new Christoc.com tonight. It's been a while since I updated that site with anything other than a logo and a few links. Hopefully over the next few weeks I'll write up some project summaries of the past projects to put on the site to provide a little more meat!

Time for cable?
I am no where near finished unpacking in the new place yet, but I did get the DSL up and running last night.

Moving.... it's not fun
I forgot how not fun moving really is. I am a darn packrat, and I've somehow gotten into this Hot Wheels hobby that hasn't exactly made for more room around my apartment! About now is the time I wish I had gotten a different car, it doesn't exactly hold much. Luckily I've got my (business) partner's 24ft enclosed trailer. I've barely cracked the surface loading it, but he and another guy will be over around 9am (it's midnight now) to help load everything else into the trailer. I guess anything I don't get tomorrow I can get Sunday if I borrow one of Dave's trucks, at least tomorrow we can get all of the stuff that needs two people and the trailer. Night all..

DNN DotText Module
Well, I've managed to make my first for public consumption software release.... I started working on a .Text module for DNN, with the help of Patrick Santry, and decided to take it a little further. The outcome is cDotText for DNN.

Orkut, are you in?
It's a “trusted” community.... so I guess you have to be invited to get in. I am really interested in seeing what it's all about, anyone out there in asp.net world trust me enough to invite me in :)

More Keyboard Shortcuts!
Check out some of the Windows Key shortcuts that Scott has posted. I think [WINDOWS KEY] + R will be most useful to me. No more Windows Key Cursor-UpCursor-UpCursor-Up commands :)

DTS project completed, full replication functionality deployed.
Today we launched the project I was discussing here. So far everything appears to be running properly at the one property that went live. I seem to have pushed out an older version of a SQL file, so we had to scramble to get the updated changes out there, but there were only a few lines of code to be run.

DotNetNuke PA package....
I created a dotText module for DNN a few weeks back, and decided to try to work on it some more today, and hopefully get it together for a PA (private assembly) release for DNN. I've never worked with PA's in DNN before, so I searched around a bit and found this post on the DNN Forums. Just wanted to say thanks to Bert for compiling all that information. I ended up downloading his PA Solution from this web site http://www.corderman.com/ and have the PA ready to go!

Playing with newsgator...
I downloaded NewsGator 2.0 tonight, just seeing how it works, being able to post from outlook while sitting at work won't exactly help my problem I posted about earlier, but it'll be fun!

UBB Classic import into ASP.NET Forums 2.0
After working with the beta of the UBB.Classic 6.7 and using the export feature I think I am just going to write an app to import everything based on the file structure of UBB.classic as upposed to using the Import/Export ruitines of 6.7. I think that will allow for better migration from older versions of UBB.classic as well, because of the file format not changing greatly, and the structured import I am setting up should be flexible enough for minor changes to the UBB structure.

So here's my deal, and I got this straight from my boss' mouth this morning, I already knew it to be true though.

Forums 2.0 Migration Tools
I am finally getting started on the ASP.NET Forums 2.0 migration tools. I had intended to get a lot of work on this done over the Holidays but after finding out how close my parents house was to the beach I spent most of my time away from a laptop!

Saddam Capture Photos
There are photos circulating on the net of Saddam's capture, they appear to be taken by someone that was part of the capture, maybe a soldier, maybe someone else.

DnnCart data application blocks changes.
I spent an hour or so today going through stored procedure calls for DnnCart today, converting them all to SQLHelper calls, and array based parameters. Still have quite a few more to do, but I am over half way through the existing calls. Once I get these done I am going to start adding some core functionality to the cart, so that there are multiple administration options for ordering, payment processing, and other features...

Down with the sickness
Of the 4 real developers here at my employer (the two AS/400 developers don't count, they are old and don't do much but complain), I am the only one here. Our “leader” is out on personal issues, I think he's on his way out the door, but really have no idea if he is or not. My buddy, another .net developer and powerebuilder dev. is in Boston getting training for an accounting software package, and then there's our other guy. This other guy left yesterday to go get his Girlfriend's daughter from daycare... Then today he's out, I have no idea why, but he's available by cell. He's always gone, I swear at least once a week, there's no way he has any vacation or personal time left.

Un-moderated on the forums!
I got myself un-moderated on ASP.NET forums yesterday! I've been trying to answer more DNN questions over there http://www.asp.net/Forums/ShowForum.aspx?tabindex=1&ForumID=90 and one of the moderators so kindly made it so my posts no longer have to go through the moderation queue!

DnnCart Product Comments when buying.
I worked this evening on adding a comments field for products in the DnnCart, so that when placing an order the user is able to add a comment, such as “2003 Nissan 350Z”, for a product, so that the order processing person knows what make/model of vehicle the part should be for.

Changes to DnnCart
Today I am working on adding a new field to the product user control, so that a customer can enter a comment on a specific product, which will be helpful with stores like SoloPerformance.com so that you can have a product that someone can order and they can tell you the make/model/year of their vehicle, without having to have the database setup with a product for each specific make/model/year which could make the database extremely large! This would only work for products that are the same price for each make/model/year, if the price were to differ it would be quite a bit more complex...

.Text blogs w/ DotNetNuke
I spent most of the evening, and early morning working on getting a site I have running on DNN setup with .Text blogs. Here are some of my thoughts and how I got it working.

Cellular Service...
Well, I switched from SprintPCS back in late October to get a Mpx200 from AT&T Wireless... I love the phone, no complaints about it whatsoever, but I have to say I am not impressed with AT&T at all.

New tires are on!
The new tires are on the car. I got Falken Ziex 512s from Autotire in Ballwin Missouri this afternoon. Thanks for the quick work guys! They had to replace a stud and lug that wasn't too friendly when it came off, but they got it all done and me out the door in under two hours.
-
Time for tires....
It appears to be time for tires for the 350.... Oops, I should know to never get them that low! It's also time for an alignment, I haven't had one done yet, and with all the races I guess I got a little extra toe out than expected.

UBB.Classic 6.7
UBB.Classic 6.7 went to Beta a few days ago, and it looks like they have an import/export function on the software now. That may help me with the development of the import/export for ASP.net Forums V2 that I am trying to work on. Hopefully I'll get to play with the beta, and then the public release pretty soon to see if it will help me out with what I plan to do.

Domain Names, how much is too much?
I purchased 5 domain names yesterday a .com .net .org .us .biz, all for a planned release later this spring.
